Austrian Decoration for Nedra Zachary

Decoration of Honor in Silver for Services to the Republic of Austria for Nedra Zachary, President of the Loren L. Zachary Society for the Performing Arts

By celebrating Nedra, we are celebrating her outstanding love for Austria’s capital city Vienna, her strong dedication to classical music and to Austria’s rich cultural heritage.

Los Angeles–born Nedra Zachary has always been dedicated to the performing arts and classical music. With a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California, Nedra’s performing arts career spanned 27 years as a pianist, ballet dancer and singer.

In 1972, Nedra and her late Viennese-born husband Dr. Loren L. Zachary founded the Loren L. Zachary Society for the Performing Arts. Since 1999, Nedra holds the Presidency of the Society.

The Loren L. Zachary Society for the Performing Arts supports and promotes the careers of young opera and operetta singers and gives them the opportunity to travel to music centers like Vienna and Salzburg.

The Society sponsors the National Vocal Competition for Young Opera Singers which has assisted in launching international careers of over 200 young singers. The annual Grand Finals Concert is presented with the Los Angeles Performing Arts Orchestra, also founded by Nedra Zachary and her late husband.

Every fall, Nedra Zachary puts Vienna in a very special limelight: The “Viennese Luncheon” under the motto “Vienna waits for you” has become a much loved tradition in Beverly Hills. In preparing and guiding through this event, Nedra Zachary always captures the very charm of Austria’s capital city.

The President of the Republic of Austria honors personalities who have been of special service to the country by conferring visible honors upon them. Under the guidance of President Nedra Zachary, the Loren L. Zachary Society for the Performing Arts creates new and lasting bonds between Austria and the United States.

In 1995, Nedra Zachary received the Gold Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria. On December 3rd, 2010, Nedra Zachary received the higher Decoration of Honor in Silver for Services to the Republic of Austria from the President of the Republic of Austria.
